Who we are

Sarasin & Partners is a London-based asset manager that manages investment portfolios on behalf of private clients, charities, institutions and pension funds from the UK and around the world.

Our Global Thematic investment philosophy has provided the platform for strong investment returns for our clients over many years. We are also well known for our `Stewardship' philosophy, integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) analysis within each stage of our investment process.

The local management team owns 40% of the voting rights in Sarasin & Partners. The remainder is owned by Bank J Safra Sarasin, one of the largest and most conservatively managed private banking groups in Switzerland.

Our partnership structure aligns our business interests with our clients while helping us to incentivise, attract and retain the best staff; turnover of staff is low, with no senior departures from the Private Client team over the past five years.

Our client base is a healthy mixture of private clients, charities, institutions and retail clients. Private clients and charities remain at the heart of our long-term strategy, accounting for more than half of the total assets under management.

What we do

At the heart of our investment approach is our Thematic Global equity selection process, which has provided the platform for a strong performance record for our clients, managed by the same team, over many years.

We are well known for our Stewardship philosophy which is consistent with our long-term investment approach, embedding environmental, social and governance (ESG) analysis within each stage of our investment process.

THEMATIC INVESTMENT:

As thematic investors, we believe that markets underestimate the importance of structural trends. Our thematic approach looks for companies that are mispriced due to the under-appreciated persistence of revenue growth and profitability. This persistence can be driven by a singular trend, or a confluence of trends. At Sarasin, we call these material, enduring trends, “themes”.

Themes are long-term forces that shape societies, industries, and ultimately financial markets. They arise from demographic shifts, innovations in technology, changing consumer preferences, or global challenges like climate change and shifting geopolitical dynamics.

We believe markets tend to short-sightedly underestimate the persistence of the growth and quality characteristics of companies benefiting from thematic tailwinds, due to misaligned incentives and behavioural biases.

Our thematic equity philosophy focuses on building portfolios of quality companies, with enduring thematic tailwinds, trading at attractive prices.

Our Asset Management team employ top-down macroeconomic analysis to determine the relative attractions of major asset classes and market sectors, with bottom up stock selection based around the identification of long term global trends, which are typically the most powerful drivers of investment ideas. Structuring ideas within a framework of indices, sectors or geographies may constrain investment performance whereas an unconstrained global thematic approach allows us to operate with relative freedom and originality.
